"if being a jujutsu sorcerer is like running a marathon。。 what if all that's at the end of that road is a mountain of our fellow sorcerers' corpses?"This volume blew me away! By far one of the best villain origin stories I've ever read。 Everything makes perfect sense。 So worried of what's gonna happen next and I'm sure as hell not ready for Shibuya arc。 "if being a jujutsu sorcerer is like running a marathon。。 what if all that's at the end of that road is a mountain of our fellow sorcerers' corpses?"This volume blew me away! read the confrontation between Satoru and Suguru。 I am a mess。 This volume left me with a broken heart。 I love the action scenes, the art style, the flash back。 Everything。 This has become my favorite volume。Here, we get to see the other side of what it's like being a Jujutsu Sorcerer trying to protect humans that we don't even know if they deserve it。 We've been following Yūji who wants to protect everyone which had buried deep in our mind that all Jujutsu Sorcerers is exactly the same as him。 Which wasn't the case with Gojo Satoru and Geto Suguru。 The battle scene between Gojo and Toji is amazing。 Even the art style。 It feels like I was watching an anime rather than reading a manga and that's what I really like about here in this volume。 During the battle scene, Gojo created a technique that is beyond unimaginable and only he can make it happen。 In that sequence we caught a glimpse of Geto Suguru's simming insecurities and hatred towards himself and towards the Jujutsu Sorcerers。 The feeling of not knowing what you are achieving and what are your goals haunted every Geto Suguru's step。 We see him as someone who pulls Gojo's leash and always keep him in check。 He is that kind of character that Gojo could depend on。 Someone who could watch his back。 Until that one event where it became Geto Suguru's unbecoming。The event that made both of them contemplate whether what they are doing for the humanity is deserving。 In the past volumes, we know that there is something dark just brewing inside Gojo and that we know he wanted to remove someone who's sitting in the throne and that he doesn't want to kill them but would rather teach students and raise them to be his allies to overthrow the one sitting at the top。 We saw his hatred towards the chain and here, we unlocked another part of him that is untamed and boiling with cold ice anger。The person they had to protect now perished。 One saw how they died in front of their eyes without being able to do something and the other, carrying that person in their arms while the humans applaud for their death。 I expected Gojo to snap during that scene and as I watch the scene unfold, I saw the realization in both of the characters eyes that those are humans they're trying to protect。 The exact humans who found someone's death entertaining and that something to be happy about。 Gojo contemplated and asked Geto if he should kill them。 Geto Suguru said that there is no meaning to it if they killed those people。 Yet, as we dive deeper into the volume, we saw how it had taken its toll on Geto。Hatred, passion, internal struggle, morality and lastly, the ugliness of humanity followed each of Geto Suguru's step。 The bitterness of devouring cursed spirits in order to protect the humans became an endless cycle for him。 The humans that he had to protect now turning into a monster in his eyes and he struggled to fight against the thought。 He was struggling and having a hard time for finding the true meaning of his purpose and break free of the cycle。That is what I really liked about in this volume。 It tackled a lot of dark themes and how all of those actions had made the characters drown into their despair and made them harder to breathe。 Worse, succumb to the darkness and madness。 Blinded by the negative emotions, they still tried to fight against it in order for them to not be consumed。 I love how they showed the conflict between what is right or wrong, who deserve to die and who doesn't, who deserves to be protected and who deserves to be sacrificed。 All of those shown in just 9 chapters in one volume。 It took me by surprise for slowly showing me the ugliness of the humans and how it affected their "protector" and bend their mentality。Like a flame doused by oxygen, an event finally triggered something deep inside Geto Suguru which resulted to him massacring an entire village while saving two children who are probably curse users and only committed a crime out of self defense。 During that scene, we know Geto Suguru's hanging by a thread and just one step, he will snap。 What the old man did to those kids and what he said is the reason why the thread snapped and set Suguru loose。 I cried during the confrontation between Geto and Gojo。 How devastated Gojo was when he found out that Geto killed a lot of people。 How the person who stopped him from killing, was the exact person who killed an entire village。 I literally bawled when Gojo did not kill Geto。 Their friendship finally broken。 Yet, even if Geto committed those crimes, Gojo still spared him twice。 Gojo couldn't seem to kill his friend。 The person who's been with him during the hard times, the person who had kept him in check。 The person who he could depend on。 The very friend he could see his future with。This broke me into tiny fragile pieces and now, with just two steps in the front, we will finally enter the huge event that I am for sure will tore me into more tiny pieces until I am nothing but dust in the wind。 not looking forward for the next volumes。 。。。more

This is dark and sad and incredible。To be honest, I've seen a lot of spoilers, so I knew most of the broad strokes of what happens, but it's completely different sitting down and actually reading it。 What a wonderfully, painfully, beautifully crafted backstory。 (And while I didn't mention it before, the art in this and the previous volume really kicked back up a notch, too。 So much detail, so much emotion, such crisp, clear action from start to finish。)Some of it's a little condensed for time, s This is dark and sad and incredible。To be honest, I've seen a lot of spoilers, so I knew most of the broad strokes of what happens, but it's completely different sitting down and actually reading it。 What a wonderfully, painfully, beautifully crafted backstory。 (And while I didn't mention it before, the art in this and the previous volume really kicked back up a notch, too。 So much detail, so much emotion, such crisp, clear action from start to finish。)Some of it's a little condensed for time, since we have to cover a few years of pretty dramatic stuff in under two volumes。 So yes, there are areas that could've been developed a bit more, but I don't think that was actually necessary。 What we're seeing here is Gojo's story - the progression of him as a supremely gifted child in a prominent house, to a recklessly arrogant teenager flush with power he couldn't fully control, to the man he is now。I don't know what's going to happen with Gojo in later volumes。 I don't know what his ultimate fate is planned to be。 But as it stands now, I think he's extraordinary。I really hadn't known anything about Riko - it's funny what people actually talk about when it comes to these books - so that hit hard。 The pact Gojo and Geto had made to abide by her decision, regardless of the consequences。。。to protect her and her future。。。that was unexpected, but so important。 It's also interesting that Not-Yet-Principal Yaga was quietly guiding his students in that direction。 There are people within this establishment who don't agree with the way things have been done for centuries - you have to know where to look and who to trust。 And when you make the wrong decisions, you come pretty close to losing everything。There's a lot of loss in this volume。Toji, Megumi's father, very nearly kills Gojo。 Gojo is still young - throughout this volume, you can feel his wide-eyed youth and inexperience and。。。in his own way, his innocence。 He's brash and opinionated and vibrating with immense power that intimidates or frightens everyone around him, but at the end of the day, he's still just a young guy who believes in people。 When he drags himself back to life, something in him breaks。 He's unstable during his second battle with Toji。。。he's wild-eyed now, too powerful for the world around him, numb from everything he's just gone through, and nearly godlike。 He's opened a window into cursed energy that no one else has been able to access for generations。 He's not angry。 He's not sad。 He's empty。 He has no active desire to punish the religious fanatics who caused Riko's death - who nearly caused his own - but he turns to Geto anyway, his eyes big and empty and fathomless - and asks whether they should。At this point, Geto says no。 That it's pointless。 That you need a reason to kill, especially on a scale that large。 And Gojo blinks, then nods, and accepts the answer。The problem is, Geto - supposedly the voice of caution and morality - doesn't abide by his own preaching。Frankly, I don't have sympathy for Geto's story。 I understand where he's coming from, of course - Gege is, as always, great at setting up these scenarios and making it believable when characters topple from good to bad to unforgivable。 But as Panda said in an earlier volume: it doesn't really matter what pain you've gone through in your own life。 What matters is what you choose to do about it。 Geto chooses the most extreme kind of violence imaginable, and the interesting thing is。。。Gojo is horrified。 Disbelieving。 Someone who would never take that kind of action, and certainly not to the level Geto has done。 I'm sure there are plenty of arguments about whether Geto's right, in a certain way, but frankly, I think that's nonsense。 What makes him special? What gives him the right to choose genocide? His classmates saw the same things he did。 Gojo held Riko's dead body in his arms and knit his own slashed throat back together。 Nanami's friend was the one who died on a badly planned mission。 They've all seen the darkness in the world - the fear and anger and violence and prejudice and hate - and they've all chosen to do what they can to fight it。 Except Geto。 I think this is why Nanami says what he does about Gojo; he was there for all of these events。 He made a choice to step away from the jujutsu world, and then to return to it。 And he saw the temptation that swept Geto away and left Gojo standing。 Closing out this volume with Gojo meeting Megumi - this time from Gojo's perspective, with more context than Megumi's memories - is such an interesting choice that tells you so much about him。 He didn't choose to destroy the world。 He chose to save it - to believe in it, still。 He took the child of the man who nearly killed him, and poured his energy into making sure that he would be strong - that Megumi could even surpass him, if he made the right choices。 This is such a dark story。。。but it ends with brightness and hope。 Gojo didn't give up - and he's the one who had the most reason to。I have a lot more thoughts about this volume, but I'll leave it there。 Suffice it to say that this was fantastically written and is the kind of story that really gets inside your head and makes you start thinking and processing on your own。 That's the kind of story I love most。 。。。more
